  • How To Install Resistors For LED Bulbs

Often when LED bulbs are installed in a location designed for mini halogens, the burned-out bulb indicator may illuminate, or if installed in turn signals, may cause them to flash rapidly. This is due to the efficiency of LED bulbs. LEDs require much less current than the halogen bulbs that they are replacing. The flasher circuit will recognize this lower current as a burnt-out bulb, and notify you with an indicator in your dash, rapid flashing, or both.

This is remedied with the addition of a resistor applied in parallel to the LED in the wiring.

You can find resistors at your local Radio Shack, or electronics store. Since determining the exact resistor required is not an exact science, and resistors are about $.10 a pop, we recommend getting a 500ohm and 750ohm in 1/2W and 1000ohm in 1/4W for each LED you'll be installing.

Then, use this link to print out installation instructions. Many thanks to Zach McLean for preparing this guide!
